ny fashion week 2012 portrait by carl posey

This of course is not the first time you see an image of me - ha! No certainly not, sometimes it seems all I do is having my picture taken...  but seriously, not always are they so cool as this recent portrait created by photographer Carl Posey. This collection has recently been featured in the photographers newsletter.

His eye popping images always have that special extra, uniquely obscure feel. In an era of personal promotion, these images are priceless and can make someone stand apart from the rest, be used for press, advertising and also in online shop banners, on facebook fan pages, newsletters, etc. The commission of a professional photographer is a incomparable valuable investment for an entrepreneur such as myself!

karl lagerfeld spotted in manhattan

O.K. I am running the risk of a Karl Lagerfeld overdose! On my blog??! Jeez! Well, screw it, I've got to post this one, it's Karl Lagerfeld shooting the new Chanel campaign in Manhattan of all places! I thought he was a French designer??! So is he moving to Manhattan? Is he going to move his business to the Big Apple? Now?! I guess NYC has gotten bourgeois enough for him by now!?

Anyway I could not believe my eyes walking through the LES... You can see Karl yielding his camera atop an industrial lifter!

The question that poses itself automatically is: "Is he wearing his glasses while shooting?" "Yes, he is." Goodness I am still in shock! But, frankly, it's just another photography job lost in the city's fashion industry!!

mlk photo skirt sweep

For an entrepreneur like me, nothing is better (and cheaper!) advertising than to be re-tweeted, linked from or to or re-featured to ignite a viral infection of any of your posts or press releases! This happened to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Photo Skirts I featured on Monday, MLK Day. They are now completely sold out - A clean sweep!

I can "blame" a few cyber activists for this result. One of them is etsystalker.

photoshop disaster

Ah, ha! I should mind my own business, but since I just bitched about the shabby baggy Ralph Lauren denim overalls, that were absolutely nothing new, it's only natural for me to wonder why do his models need to be this skinny? To fit those baggy pants?!

You think I'm kidding but I'm not: This is the brand new Ralph Lauren ad. Ralph admits that they did go a few steps to far in Photoshop retouching. Obviously!

Boingboing.net who commented on it: "Ralph Lauren opens new outlet store in the Uncanny Valley. Dude her head is bigger than her pelvis!" got in trouble and sued by RL.

What a world! But you didn't think you could believe what is said nor what you see, did you?

broadcast yourself

"Broadcast Yourself", an new exhibition at Pratt Manhattan Gallery (April 1st - May 2nd), will address the issues of power and control extended by traditional media outlets in contrast with the do-it-yourself attitude pervasive in the tech-savvy younger generation. Symposium panelists will also speak to the impact that radio and television can have in shaping the events of our time; how artists can directly engage, challenge, or subvert the structure and authority of broadcast media; and how our culture is shaped by the actions of individuals and artists.

...sweet independence..

This is a first of it's kind show and goes for anyone. In my profession and most others, Internet-savvy kids or young adults can completely surpass any traditional methods of marketing themselves and their art or their commercial business. Do you grasp what that means?! You finally get to do and say exactly what you want and you can show and say it directly to consumers worldwide via laptop, cell phone, TV, etc.

I am waaaayyy pumped about this development because it will and has already changed the whole geography of what will be consumed and how. The younger generation is on the steering wheel and it becomes more squeaky clear every day.

Why is Barack Obama president now? Because he is a part of that new generation and he had the knowledge and the desire to change the world and he was able to be elected with the help of some of the tech geniuses of our time. It doesn't get any better than that. It shows what is possible now - let that recession end and pay back that debt (Obama still has to get it right. Why not start a whole new banking system, instead of fixing this toroughly broken one?) and this new reality will be prominent - but it is already going on no matter what. It's 2009 do you know what Analytics is??

We finally can decide our own future and become (I guess more or less) independent of the mob. So watcha wait'n for??

It should have been done by the end of 2008 but I am glad to announce that our catalog is finished!! Just came hot off the press and it frankly smells like it: Fresh. Thumbing through it makes me happy. All the work that went into it seams worth it.

That colorful accumulation of pictures will be sent out to wholesale customers as well as anyone who is interested in having it.

Here is an exclusive preview...

peace love hippie holiday

For those of you who know me since my early beginnings in Switzerland, you are aware of my fixation with window display and could probably tell everybody about some of my own display concepts I was doing back then for some of my Swiss clients... anyway I am not going way back there, but it is still natural for me to want to check out the famous displays that large department stores such as Barneys New York, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, etc. are setting up for the holidays. They are usually loaded with creative ideas - just great to walk upon - and are sure to put you in great holiday spirit!

These are the Barneys Holiday 2008 windows, which you should not miss, as the details of each are particular and whimsically inventive.

Each window depicts this year's theme of Love & Peace - fitting - whether it's featuring a Volkswagen Beetle or "Kaefer" in German, counter-culture women or celebrating the 50th anniversary of the peace sign or the 40th years since the hippie hey days of 1968's Summer Of Love.

This year you can actually win a New Beetle Volkswagen, if you enter the competition, painted by artist John-Paul Phillipe, inspired by the decor of the sixties. I hope I win it, as I would love to drive around town with it wearing my Jimi Hendrix Hoodie or some of my original Hippie Grateful Dead Wear from my Fashion Rocks Collection, it would just put the dot on the i and you know I adore sets as well as concepts thought trough all the way...

... if I don't win it, I can paint my own. Love this old original VW bus too! It's just the spirit!

This is one of my dolls wearing a Beetle/Love & Peace Sweater, the only thing missing in the Barneys windows, if you ask me.

And - yes - you guessed right, I have another item that fits the Summer Of Love theme: This tie dyed Grateful Dead Skirt (from the IV Fashion Rocks Collection) with the bear driving the Hippie VW fits the bill!!!

Some of my hippie patches, which will undoubtedly be in high demand this season:

PEACE & LOVE - that's right!

madonna mia!

Steven Meisel has done it again! Check out the photos of Madonna posing for the new Louis Vuitton ad... these pics are not officially out yet, so pssst! Love the smokiness of the French Bistro.

Marc Jacobs recently went to a Madonna concert in Paris and thought she was amazing, sent her a text and asked if she would be up for a Vuitton ad. 2 minutes later she replied: "I would love to!" 50 is the new 30. If you are rich, fit and have a good retoucher... this is possible.

Isn't she fab though??!!

about IDILVICE

My photo
New York, NY, United States
Just like the rare Swiss mountain flower Edelweiss - a symbol of prestige and distinction - the clothing brand IDILVICE (pronouced "Edel-vice") was born in the mountains of Switzerland and since then it's flourishing on the concrete of Manhattan and recently even in the rolling hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. However as the spelling indicates, the label is not meant to be associated with too much folkloric alpine tradition, but rather and probably in the contrary, with unconventionality. The IDILVICE label was founded in 1995 by Swiss Native fashion designer Idil from the city of Saint Gallen, Switzerland, who's foundation dates back to the 7th Century and which became famous for their quality textile products, especially embroidery textiles, which are still popular with Parisian Haute Couture designers today. In search for something less traditional, Master Graphic Designer Idil ventured out to New York City where she fell in love with American Pop Culture.
