summer of color 2011
The Summer of 2011 is not exactly a 'Summer Of Love' I'd say. Although hippie style is back on the streets with a vengeance, the peace & love experienced in the original Summer Of Love in 1967 is largely non existing today. Sad, right. But what can you do?
Since I can't speak of another Summer Of Love, I will say, while ignoring everything else imporant going on in the world, the Summer of 2011 is a Summer Of Colorful Nail Polish. Nail salon palettes seam to ever expand by the day. Instead of the usual variety of shades of reds, there are milky greys, dirty muds, sparkly yellows, camouflage greens, soft purples, day glo oranges, electric and midnight indigo blues... wait! Blues??!
Years ago if you would have been seen with blue nails, they would have thought you are about to die. Today in 2011 blue nails are no longer something worth more than a quick "Yeah, I know this is the newest color" nod. No stares and no head turns. Blue is totally cool in 2011.
Nothing to be afraid of. But wait, I missed a point. Not only is this 2011 the Summer Of Crazy Nail Polish, it is also a new Summer Of Color everywhere! Colors and graphics. Nobody is afraid of color or graphics. Not even men. I see the craziest combinations, polka dots and stripes combined... everything goes!
Well of course not everything 'goes', but people seem to be getting better at being confident about what goes.... An abstract painting on a blouse anyone? Monet? Yeah, go right ahead and add the highest platforms with that in a 'non-matching' leopard pattern.
I always was a colorful individual myself, someone that would not let anyone tell her: "This does not match." But I am suspecting that Lady Gaga has freed a lot more people by now.

just another day in new york
Just another inspiring day in New York, that is. Yeap I'm back from Vegas in New York... but what happened to the beautiful weather when I left? Today the city reminds me of the cloudy, rainy days of Switzerland... wewh! Whatever. I am trying not to look out the window today and just go have fun making some new things then....
As I now descend onto my colorful table of contents - literally - my mood gets an instant lift! I love the way fashion inspires, frankly just the color of a garment or the texture of a jacquard can change ones perception. That's how powerful fashion is.
I always thought that through dressing one best expresses him/herself, because of fashions power to inspire and it's ability to transcend moods and perception. You can basically be whoever you want!
It's kind of tough though too, just due to the fact that you can't escape it! Even if you dress like you don't care, this will transcend into how you are perceived. So basically you have to think about it. You have a choice to dress to impress or dress to express.
Oh, and see, I forgot all about the weather! By now the sun is peaking through the clouds : ) So be mindful of how you dress and enjoy this day!

pop art

It's just the weirdest thing that while I am focusing on finishing the Dark Glamour Gothic post, there is color all around me... day-glow at that! How am I supposed to think straight?? Anyway, this is a daily debacle for a fashion designer and I am used to think about things that are not here to think about at that time. But as it is, a good press article never comes at the wrong time and I always in particular look forward to Olivier Rohrbach's selections of "IT-things" of the moment.
This seasons picks of Pop Art pieces do clearly speak for themselves... and I am so proud to be featured among such great timeless designs of my long time favorite Jean-Charles de Castelbajac as well as Stephen Sprouse (who sadly died only a few years ago due to lung cancer. It's the reason I finally stopped smoking 2 years ago...)
On a much happier note: Thanks Olivier for the eternally funky selections, as always!

black
Black. Yes, black. As a nail polish to be exact. While this is not one of those commercial shopping blogs which points out new things to buy daily, it may seam odd that I show you girls this item here... but just keep reading my posts and you will soon see that this leads up to something.... it's the start of something, you will see...
So, in case you are unaware: it is time to store the day glow colors and shimmering glosses and trade them in for this: Black matte (flatte) nail polish.
From Knock Out Cosmetics, the creation of celebrity makeup artist Mike Potter. Flatte black nail polish. Starts flatte, wears into satin.
You can get a head-turning long-lasting, no-shine look by painting on just one coat of polish. Once dry, if you prefer, buff to a luscious satin. Do not use a top coat. You'll lose the whole flatte effect if you do. This polish is such a refreshing departure from the high-gloss look you've grown up with; it's soft quiet, subtle and oh so stylish.

young women market color S/S 2010

It's the time again where I am trying to get into the mood for Spring Summer 2010. I first let myself inspire by forecasts, especially in terms of colors, it gives me a lot of ideas... check it out!
Amped Up
Neon intensified and amplified. Amped Up.
Lime green and bright yellow shades of strobe light and wacky fanatic exude funkiness on a palette of vinyl and metallic spandex. Unconventional and bizarre metal eyelets and dog leash fasteners evoke a notion of fearlessness. Luminous orange and hot pink tones of precocious and gaudy ignite bubbly, plastic backdrops of slinky knit and cotton jersey. Extreme in degree. Amped Up.
Free Style
Liberated and unrestrained style. Free Style.
Orchid and deep pink shades of emancipation and uninhibited harmonize fluid movements of silk habotai and organza. Pinkish violet and light sea green hues of sovereignty and triumphant exuberance give an alluring depth to wisps of taffeta and charmante. Poignant, raw edges exude liberty and inner serenity. Style transcending boundaries of the mind. Free Style.
Touch Of Blush
A perfect touch for the femme fatale. Touch Of Blush.
Yellow gold and light pink shades of glow and flushed cheeks evoke a notion of virtue and temptation on a backdrop of Duchesse Satin. Deep rose mingles with gold-flecked ribbon, accentuating delicate, fluttering nuances. Mauve and fuchsia tones of deep love and modesty inspire extreme femininity on gabardine and tulle. A feminine touch. Touch Of Blush
Tropical Twist
Sultry vibrations with a twist. Tropical Twist. Vibrant turquoise and green shades of cool breezes and lush terrain create a parallel balance in a backdrop of ethereal views. Coral and pink tones of irradiant flamingo and plumeria reveal subtle stitching and precise edges on plain weave poplin. Purple hues of opium coil indicate an unrestrained peculiarity on flat-felled seams. A twist below the equator. Tropical Twist.
Sounds really good to me!
about IDILVICE
- IDILVICE
- New York, NY, United States
- Just like the rare Swiss mountain flower Edelweiss - a symbol of prestige and distinction - the clothing brand IDILVICE (pronouced "Edel-vice") was born in the mountains of Switzerland and since then it's flourishing on the concrete of Manhattan and recently even in the rolling hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. However as the spelling indicates, the label is not meant to be associated with too much folkloric alpine tradition, but rather and probably in the contrary, with unconventionality. The IDILVICE label was founded in 1995 by Swiss Native fashion designer Idil from the city of Saint Gallen, Switzerland, who's foundation dates back to the 7th Century and which became famous for their quality textile products, especially embroidery textiles, which are still popular with Parisian Haute Couture designers today. In search for something less traditional, Master Graphic Designer Idil ventured out to New York City where she fell in love with American Pop Culture.
