tavi love

Yep, yep, yep... it's Tavi on the cover of L'Officiel! I remember that this was one of my favorite mags back when I was living in Switzerland, similar to Vogue Italia, it had it's own style and mind... it was mostly a great buy.

So now Lori Goldstein, the uber stylist whose latest accomplishment includes that she is fashion editor of W magazin, (well done 'mam) who did the styling on Tavi and who famously used some of my tops and dresses in the photo series 'THE KIDS' with photographer Steven Meisel for Vogue Italia in the year 2000 (gosh, how fast time passes) recently posted a link to this L'Officiel cover and it impressed and made me happy just as it must have Lori.

It's just such an honor to know that SHE picked my stuff for the KIDS shoot! In my opinion she just seemingly easily pulls a look together and makes it HER OWN... she's really a pro at it, hence the jobs she is getting from the worlds top magazines! Well, this new cover now gives me an opportunity to dig out the pics of the Vogue Italia shoot, 2000, photographed by - ahkheam - Steven Meisel, yet another incredible person to have shot my stuff by - Wew - How lucky am I?!

Today, when Fashion Bloggers are looked upon for influence and inspiration, cast in commercials and prominently seated in the front row of fashion shows, it comes as no surprise that a major magazine would put one of them on the cover!

But it is not just one of those bloggers, it is Tavi, who is the young writer of a blog called Style Rookie. J'ADORE. Thanks Tavi and Lori for makin this all look so good :) today and yesterday...

kid rock rocks

You all know the cool Kid Rock "Kiss My Anglo Saxon Ass" Dress from my collection. It's actually one of my bestsellers. The gold foil enhancement on the sunnies and the bling make it extra special and the positioning of the x-rated slogan (which by the way has been removed once for a customer, who said that she would rather not have that printed on her buttocks, and I complied as an exception) is so exiting!

Anyways, the dress is nearly sold out by now, I think I have 1 or 2 pieces in XS and S left, but that fact and the resulting useless promotion of it, did not keep me from showing you the promo images Kid Rock has recently published - They are HOT! Love the chicks in those cut-out gold lamé bathing suits.... and what about these afro's?!

It is so nice to see the rest of the image in retrospect! I always adored the pic of Kid and obviously many of my customers did also, but it rocks that the extension of the image is so incredible hot too!

Well, I thought Kid Rock rocked before, but now I think Kid Rock rocks even more!

ny fashion week 2011

Everybody is ready for NY Fashion Week!

The Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference at Milk Studios rocked and yesterdays Fashion's Night Out was a blast! I concentrated on the area around Tribeca, I was not crazy enough to head uptown or even attempt to catch a cab, but even in the dark ally's of Gotham City's Downtown it felt like Halloween, except more fashionable of course...

Now it's the second day of shows and Anna Wintour seams to be everywhere, at Roger Federer's US Open matches and always readily perfectly styled in the front row of every fashion show at Lincoln Center or elsewhere... How does she do it??!

don't forget, it's still summer

Soon enough the Fall and Winter will come upon us in the State of New York... I wanted to remind everybody and myself to enjoy to be outside as much as we can in the coming weeks... in a few days August is gone by and before we know it it's time to make plans for X-mas and the new Year 2012.... hey but that hurts! I don't even wanna think about that yet... so I will do my best to once again head to the beach, wear my shorts and Summer tops, platform sandals and so on... you should too :)

early '80s madonna, when she was born for us

Well, Happy Birthday Madonna and happy birthday to all leos (I am one of those :)!

To celebrate let's go back to when we learned of Madonna (that's when she was born for us)... The 80's!

Her look back then is easily my favorite. I guess the Eighties look on Madonna is so attractive because back then she was innocent and real... a girl like us, ambitious, trying to make it happen in the Big Apple. When she was sporting this look of the 80's she did not and could not know she would be an icon, she was just herself.

Of course she also was young and cute (her daughter Lourdes reminds us of Madonna in the 80's today) and she made a look with what she had laying around the house, I imagine.

Of course many styling details pictured here are back in style today in 2011, including the duffle bag, the poka dot flats, head scarf bands, high waist jeans, boyfriend blazer, stacked bangle bracelets, etc. it's all here and now, but I have not seen that tightly tied scarf around the necks of our generation yet...

Madonna sported this tight tied style a lot, as correctly and fittingly repeatedly portrayed in these photographs. I'll steal this look for Fall!

summer of color 2011

The Summer of 2011 is not exactly a 'Summer Of Love' I'd say. Although hippie style is back on the streets with a vengeance, the peace & love experienced in the original Summer Of Love in 1967 is largely non existing today. Sad, right. But what can you do?

Since I can't speak of another Summer Of Love, I will say, while ignoring everything else imporant going on in the world, the Summer of 2011 is a Summer Of Colorful Nail Polish. Nail salon palettes seam to ever expand by the day. Instead of the usual variety of shades of reds, there are milky greys, dirty muds, sparkly yellows, camouflage greens, soft purples, day glo oranges, electric and midnight indigo blues... wait! Blues??!

Years ago if you would have been seen with blue nails, they would have thought you are about to die. Today in 2011 blue nails are no longer something worth more than a quick "Yeah, I know this is the newest color" nod. No stares and no head turns. Blue is totally cool in 2011.

Nothing to be afraid of. But wait, I missed a point. Not only is this 2011 the Summer Of Crazy Nail Polish, it is also a new Summer Of Color everywhere! Colors and graphics. Nobody is afraid of color or graphics. Not even men. I see the craziest combinations, polka dots and stripes combined... everything goes!

Well of course not everything 'goes', but people seem to be getting better at being confident about what goes.... An abstract painting on a blouse anyone? Monet? Yeah, go right ahead and add the highest platforms with that in a 'non-matching' leopard pattern.

Meezer, Caroline and IdilVice during Summer Of Color 2011.

Feathers in your ears? Flowers on your head? Pink, blond and blue hair all at once? Go right ahead!

I always was a colorful individual myself, someone that would not let anyone tell her: "This does not match." But I am suspecting that Lady Gaga has freed a lot more people by now.

disco dancing and stayin' alive

Gosh! I saw 'Stayin' Alive' the other day on TV and was spell bound :) John Travolta was embarrassing but - hey - it was the 80's, so we have got to forgive him for that... The disco soundtrack is impeccable and you can't find any two things more in tune than those Travolta bouncing hips when he is walking to the Bee Gees 'Stain Alive' tune! He just said good bye to both the chicks BTW (in the movie)... It's a feel good moment.

And while it feels good, and I know you all are hanging out at the roof top parties and the art openings (at least I do), let me show you this new ABBA dress I designed... I think it's hot, frankly, I am already imagining someone hot wearing it and shaking their sweet curvatious booty to a disco beat - Aaaah! - those where the days weren't they?!

Listen, enjoy the Summer and don't forget to check in once in a while for some hip fashion tips :)

happy 4th of july!

July is my birthday month and frankly probably my favorite in the year :) The weather is at it's best and the warm sun (please use SPF sun protection like I do) makes everyone smile and have a blast... it is yet again time to spend outside in a circle of friends on the many priceless NYC rooftops! Well, as you see, I am ready for the fireworks show later on tonight, so please: Bring 'em on!

about IDILVICE

My photo
New York, NY, United States
Just like the rare Swiss mountain flower Edelweiss - a symbol of prestige and distinction - the clothing brand IDILVICE (pronouced "Edel-vice") was born in the mountains of Switzerland and since then it's flourishing on the concrete of Manhattan and recently even in the rolling hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. However as the spelling indicates, the label is not meant to be associated with too much folkloric alpine tradition, but rather and probably in the contrary, with unconventionality. The IDILVICE label was founded in 1995 by Swiss Native fashion designer Idil from the city of Saint Gallen, Switzerland, who's foundation dates back to the 7th Century and which became famous for their quality textile products, especially embroidery textiles, which are still popular with Parisian Haute Couture designers today. In search for something less traditional, Master Graphic Designer Idil ventured out to New York City where she fell in love with American Pop Culture.
