summer of color 2011

The Summer of 2011 is not exactly a 'Summer Of Love' I'd say. Although hippie style is back on the streets with a vengeance, the peace & love experienced in the original Summer Of Love in 1967 is largely non existing today. Sad, right. But what can you do?

Since I can't speak of another Summer Of Love, I will say, while ignoring everything else imporant going on in the world, the Summer of 2011 is a Summer Of Colorful Nail Polish. Nail salon palettes seam to ever expand by the day. Instead of the usual variety of shades of reds, there are milky greys, dirty muds, sparkly yellows, camouflage greens, soft purples, day glo oranges, electric and midnight indigo blues... wait! Blues??!

Years ago if you would have been seen with blue nails, they would have thought you are about to die. Today in 2011 blue nails are no longer something worth more than a quick "Yeah, I know this is the newest color" nod. No stares and no head turns. Blue is totally cool in 2011.

Nothing to be afraid of. But wait, I missed a point. Not only is this 2011 the Summer Of Crazy Nail Polish, it is also a new Summer Of Color everywhere! Colors and graphics. Nobody is afraid of color or graphics. Not even men. I see the craziest combinations, polka dots and stripes combined... everything goes!

Well of course not everything 'goes', but people seem to be getting better at being confident about what goes.... An abstract painting on a blouse anyone? Monet? Yeah, go right ahead and add the highest platforms with that in a 'non-matching' leopard pattern.

Feathers in your ears? Flowers on your head? Pink, blond and blue hair all at once? Go right ahead!

I always was a colorful individual myself, someone that would not let anyone tell her: "This does not match." But I am suspecting that Lady Gaga has freed a lot more people by now.

disco dancing and stayin' alive

Gosh! I saw 'Stayin' Alive' the other day on TV and was spell bound :) John Travolta was embarrassing but - hey - it was the 80's, so we have got to forgive him for that... The disco soundtrack is impeccable and you can't find any two things more in tune than those Travolta bouncing hips when he is walking to the Bee Gees 'Stain Alive' tune! He just said good bye to both the chicks BTW (in the movie)... It's a feel good moment.

And while it feels good, and I know you all are hanging out at the roof top parties and the art openings (at least I do), let me show you this new ABBA dress I designed... I think it's hot, frankly, I am already imagining someone hot wearing it and shaking their sweet curvatious booty to a disco beat - Aaaah! - those where the days weren't they?!

Listen, enjoy the Summer and don't forget to check in once in a while for some hip fashion tips :)

happy 4th of july!

July is my birthday month and frankly probably my favorite in the year :) The weather is at it's best and the warm sun (please use SPF sun protection like I do) makes everyone smile and have a blast... it is yet again time to spend outside in a circle of friends on the many priceless NYC rooftops! Well, as you see, I am ready for the fireworks show later on tonight, so please: Bring 'em on!

about me

My Photo
New York, NY, United States
Yes, I'm full of myself, but I became an instant celebrity after showing my first collection in a fashion show in Zürich, 1995. It was covered by the Swiss National evening news. The Swiss press calls me "The Most Important Invention After Color TV!" This exposure lead to countless endorsements with companies such as Bernina (Sewing Machines), Philip Morris, etc. I was a judge at the Miss Switzerland 1998 competition and was chosen to design the clothing concept for the Swiss National EXPO' 02. Celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Kelly Osbourne wear my fashion. In NYC, I gained recognition from the largest publications including WWD, Vogue, The Village Voice who called my label "The Best Name Of The Day" after Fashion Week and the New York Times declared: "IDILVICE's collection had the combination of elements that make a fashion audience sit up and take notice". Does it get better? Only The New Yorker article, which named IDILVICE one of the few lines besides Oscar De La Renta and Anna Sui to still be produced in the USA, may top that. Besides being a finalist in the Gen Art Styles 2000 and 2001 show, I have designed a couture collection for Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis.
