susie bubble in ny

...susie bubble in ny...

Heyah! I haven't slept tonight, because I was worried - while feeling slightly excited about the prospects of a 20 inch display iMac with a mighty mouse and a brand new keyboard - that I might have to purchase a new computer this morning, after I discovered - upon my return from the Dress Up Soiree, last night - that my laptop was blank, stuck, gone dark - - - Yikes!

Well, I've managed to get it to work again and so the new Mac will have to wait, oh well! Sigh!

O.K. so what was it like last night? Four words: Susie Bubble in NY.
A bit ahead of time, not fashionably late, I was one of the first to enter the back room at 171 East Broadway and I spoted Jennine Tamm, blogger, entrepreneur, creator of Independent Fashion Blogger par excellence, putting the finishing touches to the table center pieces. You'd come to expect a mogul, if you do not already know her quirky, girlie appearance from the pictures on her blog The Coveted.

I recognized Susie Bubble instantly, by far the most famous panel member here. She thinks that blogging has reached the peak and says that no one knows what the future brings and it will depend on the bloggers who keep creating content. Why was I surprised to hear her thick British accent??! Well, that was an interesting discovery: we are indeed roaming through blog cyber space daily where we have no personal contact at all and only read about a person, while getting insight into their world. Well, with the fact that I heard her voice and am in the know now of her careful choices of words, I've added another dimension to Susie!

When an attendee pointed out that he never had imagined her to have this casual t-shirt style (he had expectations of the style-savvy blogger) - Susie wore a simple vintage t-shirt dress and flats, although she was sporting a frilly bow tie headband with that - she mentioned, as if excusing herself, that she just came from the shows - which in my book would call for dress up - but maybe as an employee of Dazed & Confused, shows are just work and require comfort in order to do the actual work. Anyway, I was not in a great mood my own self to dress up for this dress up soiree - after all we are heading into the 5th night in a row of Fashion Week and I am glad I have a clean outfit! I thought she best would have sticked to her follow up that maybe her take on casual is different from his.

...everybody wanted a picture with ms. bubble and so did i...

Afterward I had some fun in the bathroom, trying to photograph my outfit... without much luck, I should have asked someone to snap it for me...

... anyway - no hard feelings - but I just felt a bit awkward surrounded by all these bloggers in person (aren't we online networkers?) and thought maybe I like them as bloggers more than in person anyway and so I left Chinatown and the smell of it behind me. I take one advice though, I will stay true to myself and keep creating good content. Thanks for a lovely evening Jennine!

to be or not to be on that list

It's rough these days, you don't need me to tell you that. It's to buy or not to buy. But in any case, I always thought it's a good thing to be on the list, good times or bad. When you go to a night club, being on the list is a treat, sometimes it's a must to get in to party, "hey"! To be on Schindler's List would have been a great thing, which would have most likely saved your life!

Yeah, lists rock, but recently I have been on a list that I was not sure to be pleased to be on, right? I mean, can you imagine to be (or rather have your merchandise be) on a list of things that will not be bought? Ever heard of that one?! Well, let me tell you, I have been on a list like that and I was like: "What tha heck?!"

So this girl named Lexi put up this blog site "Not Buying" where she lists all things she desperately wants but will not get. Yooh, that's a first for me!

It's a sign of the time guys, so even though I don't want to be on that list, I kinda think it's great to be on it at the same time :) I mean - come on - Lexi adores the Beatles Hippie Tunic, and if the economy would be as usual, she'd have purchased it, right? So it's cool! "Yes, I want to be on that list!" The question is: "To buy or not to buy..."

Lexi told me in private she still might buy it... ;-)

susie bubble style

susie bubble, photograph by nick hartley

If you have not had a chance to meet or know about Susie Bubble, you are not much of a fashionista nor are you that knowledgeable about what's happening on the fashion blog front. Without a doubt: You are missing out.

...susie posing on her balcony in london...

You can thank me now for hooking you up with this post about this ever so stylish and savvy fashion blogger Susie Bubble (a friend in primary school started calling her that, because she saw her living in her own kind of world - a bubble!). You could be a changed person after you learn about her blog Style Bubble because I know for a fact that you will be tempted to check it out weekly until you realize that she is posting in such a tempo that if you don't wanna miss too much, you should actually check in daily.

There is so much to say about Susie, here is what she says about her interests:

Interests are overrated BUT since I have to occupy my oodles and oodles of time with some kind of activity I guess I have to say shopping for all the things that make me happy: 5 pound vintage dresses, macaroons from Laduree, Amelia's magazine, Penguin Classics anniversary books, feathers and lace, shoes with a good sturdy heel and shimmery make up. I like eating anything with red beans, garlic butter and nuts (not necessarily all at once). I like seeing films that have killer lines, killer gigs, art shows with killer paintings or artists with killer instincts and all things killer. Oh, and I like looking at the sea, because the sea likes looking back at me!!

Fun - I know - but I personally think she is absolutely at her best with her own style of which she is constantly taking pictures (she claims the photographer is her BF (boyfriend??) but I have yet to see a picture of him anywhere on her blog... so....) however she does it; that picture taking; she has yet to run out of options of style combinations...

Yeap, she has a humongous closet - must have!!? At one point after London Fashion Week ((that is where the Hong Kong born - mostly mistaken for being Japanese or Korean by her fellow Hong Kong'ers - lives and works (for Dazed Digital) when she is not blogging or rather the other way around...)), being a self declared neat freak, she evaluated her outfits for each day of Fashion Week and came up with this graph:

I was impressed. It categorizes the percentages of types of sources of her clothing worn during a run of about 2-3 weeks. I think this is about the perfect balance of the mix of sources which everyone of us should have: it supports a very unique kind of look because you bring together so many different pieces. Needles to say, you should have a very good eye for things when you shop like this, and you will still have to put them together in some way.

Anyway, Susie managed and has been managing her looks just fine, see for yourself:

...now it's about time you headed over there and check out all of her endless incredible styles and her observations of trends and any fashionable happening in London and elsewhere!

Salve Susie!

about IDILVICE

My photo
New York, NY, United States
Just like the rare Swiss mountain flower Edelweiss - a symbol of prestige and distinction - the clothing brand IDILVICE (pronouced "Edel-vice") was born in the mountains of Switzerland and since then it's flourishing on the concrete of Manhattan and recently even in the rolling hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. However as the spelling indicates, the label is not meant to be associated with too much folkloric alpine tradition, but rather and probably in the contrary, with unconventionality. The IDILVICE label was founded in 1995 by Swiss Native fashion designer Idil from the city of Saint Gallen, Switzerland, who's foundation dates back to the 7th Century and which became famous for their quality textile products, especially embroidery textiles, which are still popular with Parisian Haute Couture designers today. In search for something less traditional, Master Graphic Designer Idil ventured out to New York City where she fell in love with American Pop Culture.
