new summer heigths in the city hurt

Even if you are not in the fashion business or particularly fashionable, there is not a chance in the world that you could have missed the trend in new heights of the womans shoes. And if you live in New York City, you have been lucky enough to have enjoyed the amusing sight of a woman trying to make her way, over deep dark pot holes, dusty gravel, block wide vent grids, good old gobble stone streets and what not, stylishly and seemingly without any distress, cross town in her brand new platforms!

Not that those shoes were not in style before in the 1980's and the early Nineties and even the 70's actually, before the American sneakers stole the show and designers like me proclaimed that sneakers are even to be worn with evening gowns. Of course platforms are not new, but they are definitely in style again, actually they are the only old school shoe that seem new at the moment.

You have not bought yourself a wedge shoe yet?! Get going and get some band aids with them too, as, unless you spend a half a fortune on a high end wedge sandal, you'll get scratched. No matter how stylish you look and how good you manage walking down the bumpy roads, you will get hurt, let me tell you.

I experience it myself every single day of this Summer 2011 so far.



Well, it 'aint so pretty now 'aint it? I am now longing for the days when the good old Air Nike sneaker comes back in style...

holiday feeling

It's no secret, we are reminded every day that it's that time of year again where the x-mas holiday celebrations are upon us and I must say I am feeling cozy and festive these days, especially since they are forecasting a few days of snow storms... Ahhh! There we go - I love Winter! So during times like these I like to come up with some garments and accessories that are making me feel... well, exactly that: cozy and festive!

Have a look at this evening pouch I just made...



It's a One-Of-A-Kind. The screen print depicts a woman in 1920's attire posing with a leopard. I found a very small batch of prints of different 1920's images, so there will be a couple of similar bags, but each and every one will be a different picture and they'll vary in sizes too. The color theme here is black, white, gray, rusty orange (dress), copper (glass beads), pearl gray (glass beads) and antique silver (chain).



It's kind of thought to accent an evening dress with some eclectic sparkle... it really works with any black dress. I even see an elegant pair of pants - wide leg, satin and a blouse or an evening top with some more beading accents perhaps? Crushed velvet in a jacket or coat, might be a good choice... anyhow, I just wanted to get in the mood a bit...



Of course, it's handmade. And it features an array of tiny little details which make this handbag so fabulous!

It's fully lined with a black on black patterned silk charmeuse and I added padding to give it a nice soft thickness. An inner small pocket comes in handy and the cotton crushed velvet backside brings that certain cozy vintage vibe and richness with it's texture. The silver gray and copper glass beaded fringe and a slippery snake chain strap add sparkle and last but certainly not least a smooth riri zipper for quick and easy access!




Yes, just simply a great piece to compliment and finish an evening look for years to come! Own this One Of A Kind...

my metallic manicure

That's my current nail look - Don't be jealous! I think these new Minx Nails are quiet stunning combined with flashy jewelery - I had to have them! Just like the matte black nail polish when it came out earlier this year... A flexible polymer is heated then applied to nails...almost like a sticker. These get-noticed metallic nails are a mess free, green alternative to nail polish. I love them paired with my glam rock Kiss clothing!

...they work extra ordinarily well with my kiss skirt for example...

round sunglasses

You all must have seen the John Lennon Poster (Mr. Lennon’s image, in round sunglasses) allover the NYC town, peering at us from subway walls and billboards since May, publicizing a Lennon exhibition at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex in SoHo. That show ignited requests for round sunglasses at stores around the city.

The hot eyewear look of 2008 was pretty much defined by plastic Wayfarer knockoffs, garish neon trapezoids often seen color-coordinated with a plaid shirt and sneakers. Or else it was “shutter shades,” those ventilated blinders popularized by Kanye West (that was really too much).

It's 2009 and sunglasses must be round! Why? Only last year round sunglasses were considered square?

Round frames last appeared as a fashion trend about two decades ago. In 1989, when Alain Mikli introduced a thick-rimmed version. One of my very first were Mikli's!

Before that, they were a defining element of hippie style during the 1960s counterculture movement — just about the only time that round glasses could be described as an unqualified fashion hit. Throughout the last century, round glasses have been associated with celebrated architects, literary stars and intellectual thinkers — Philip Johnson, Le Corbusier, Dominick Dunne, Gandhi — almost all of them men and rarely a figure noted for his cutting-edge personal style.

And yet something about the style, as uncommercial as it may seem, has clicked with designers. Or, as it turns out, several things happened at roughly the same time, in 2007 and 2008, that help explain why you are seeing round sunglasses again.

The story of round would not be complete without a nod to the hippies. This year’s Broadway revival of “Hair,” while not exactly fashion friendly, had its first performances last summer at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. At a preview last May, its cast performed at the Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art before an audience that included a spectrum of international fashion designers.

Remember the black-and-white portraits taken in the 1950s and ’60s by the Malian photographer Malick Sidibé, who was given a lifetime achievement award at the Venice Biennale art fair two years ago? That was when Mr. Sidibé, now in his 70s, began to have an unexpected fashion moment. Designers sought out monographs of his work, notably a 2004 edition published by Steidl that conveyed the exuberance of postcolonial West Africa with images of stylish young men and women, many of them wearing incredible sunglasses.

But it was not Mr. Sidibé’s influence alone that set off the trend. John Lennon deserves some credit, too. In July 2007, Mr. Lennon’s name was again in the news when a pair of his wire-rimmed round glasses were sold at auction, drawing bids of more than $1.5 million, the BBC reported, though the final sale price, which was never disclosed, was believed to be far less.

But it also just makes plain sense that round glasses would return because they mesh with other eyewear themes occurring at the moment, like vintage, geek-chic and Hollywood.

This round shape is the most natural shape for designers to embrace and maybe, another signature Lennon style — an upside-down pear shape — would be the next big thing after that?

Well, yes. I said it was all around me, did I not? Here we go with some Nordic goth from Scandinavia which is happening right now:

Ingmar Bergman may be dead, but his spirit lives on in Sweden. After a couple of decades of the Swedes trying to be upbeat, morose has become chic again. In particular, a group of young women are promoting a sexy new gothic vibe that seems inspired by horror movies and long dark winter nights.

The Sweedish-born New York-based art photographer (and Whitney Biennial alumna) Hanna Liden works with ominous imagery of strange figures in stark and barren landscapes that exude a raw and primal sense of threat and fear. She is also preparing to direct her first horror movie.



Helena Horstedt
The fledging designer Helena Horstedt creates extremely elaborate, all-black clothes for women that look as if they’re costumes for a sexed-up remake of “The Seventh Seal.” Her collections have names like Broken Shadow and the Black Whole and are made-to-measure in her Stockholm studio.


Hanna Hedman
The jewelry artist Hanna Hedman’s debut collection of floor-length oxidized metal necklaces and synthetic twig brooches is called Enough Tears to Cry for Two and is based on feelings of loss and grief and artifacts of mourning, including condolence letters and decaying flowers.

Karin Dreijer
Formerly the Knife, the electronic musician Karin Dreijer just released an album as Fever Ray. It’s a dark and moody record in which a voice transmitter makes her voice sound male and ghoulish. The video for the single “If I Had a Heart” shows children floating on a dark river and wandering through an abandoned castle.
